Boots Off Hostel to Damascus, VA
An A.T. Adventure – Part 1 Another year another hiking adventure! This time I am hiking from Boots Off Hostel in Hampton, TN to Damascus, Virginia. A 47-mile hike through the beautiful Iron Mountains of Tennessee. But it almost didn’t happen. Bob (aka Lumberjack) and I had planned to hike Oct 1 – 7th. Sunday through Friday. That gave us 5 days to hike and 2 for travel. Plenty of time to get some miles under our feet. Lumberjack is from Virginia and I am from Florida, so we usually meet up halfway somewhere between North Carolina and Tennessee. But this time we planned to meet up in northern Tennesee…

Goodbye Big Kitty
Yesterday I lost my sweet Kitty. It was so unexpected and out of the blue. My heart feels so conflicted. Part me is like “it’s just a cat” the other part feels like I lost a family member. The hurt is real. The pain intense. It comes in waves. I am trying to embrace it, to understand it, to appreciate the grief.

The Weather was Amazing Today
It was one of those days that kinda catches you by surprise. It was rather cool for a day in May. The humidity seemed at an all time low. There was a nice breeze that made you feel alive with it’s chilly fingers. Why does it feel like October?

What are essentials and what can I leave? The first time I hiked the Appalachian Trail my pack was close to 42lbs with food and water. It…

Announcement! I’m Heading Back to the AT
Like the title says, I’m heading back to the AT. It’s my friend, Mat’s 42nd birthday and he asked to go hiking. We had done a few local Florida hikes before. I guess you can call them hikes. More like walking straight for a while. But we had never done real mountain hiking together. I had the best idea. Let’s do 42 miles on the Appalachian Trail. He had never been on the Appalachian Trail before but had heard amazing things about it because I pretty much never shut up about it. Kinda like how vegans and CrossFit never stop talking about, well vegetables and CrossFit. If you spend enough…

Heading back to AT Again!
I just can’t seem to stay away from the Appalachian Trail. It calls to me, begging me for one more mile, one more day, and one more peak. I can’t help but to answer the call. I enjoy the long days walking through the woods. I love the smells, the fresh water, the simplicity of taking one step in front of the other and ending up on some peak with an amazing view. It’s like all the stress just melts away. I don’t have to worry about anything but putting one foot in front of the other. Sure, its sweaty, and exhausting, and everything hurts but its all worth it.…
